Ysgol Dewi Sant

Music

The Music Department's success has been built on a long-term commitment to music for all. We are committed to giving access to as broad a range of activities as possible to all pupils in the school.

Music for all has built up a fine reputation for concerts and stage productions. These include the annual Carol Service held in St. Davids Cathedral, the home to our Patron Saint, and a long tradition of stage musicals, played to full houses and produced to professional standards.

The school has one orchestra, a soul band, a choir, numerous chamber music groups and pop/rock groups.

We are very fortunate at Ysgol Dewi Sant to have an exceptional music team where there is a great deal of fantastic music making of all kinds. We enjoy everything from rock and pop bands to string quartets and from classical music concerts to our recent full-scale production of "Scrooge".

The Music Department is based in a separate unit from the main school boasting spectacular views of the Pembrokeshire countryside and coastal views. The main classroom is spacious and equipped with keyboards and a continuous programme of development and upgrading further enhances the school's facilities. The Music Department operates from high quality rooms, having modern technological development alongside all the traditional aspects of music making.

We are very fortunate at Ysgol Dewi Sant to have a subsidised instrumental lessons service for all and as a school we believe that this should continue. Pupils have the opportunity to learn a wide variety of instruments from a team of highly qualified specialist instrumental teachers. Pupils can learn:

(i) woodwind instruments;

(ii) brass instruments;

(iii) tuned and kit percussion;

(iv) violin and viola;

(v) cello; and

(vi) guitar and bass.

We are committed to the inclusion of pupils of all abilities in the musical life of the school.
